Frequently Asked Questions

Predeparture FAQ – October 2019

Q: What exactly are you doing?
A: We are giving up our house and jobs, to live in a fifth-wheel RV. We’ll tow it around the country, seeing the sites, and visiting friends and family.

Q: But why?
A: We hope it will be fun and fulfilling way to live.

Q: Won’t you miss your family and friends?
A: Very much so, yes. We hope to be back to see them at least once a year. While we travel, we hope to visit other friends and family we don’t get to see nearly as often.

Q: Where are you going first?
A: This is by far the question we are asked the most and it is kind of difficult to answer. Because this isn’t a vacation for us, we’re not immediately headed to the Grand Canyon or anything like that. We plan on slow traveling, moving from RV park to RV park, staying for at least a week at a time, trying to keep up with the good weather. While we are parked we’ll check things out in the local area. I’m sure we’ll make some plans to visit major parks and attractions at some point, but we don’t have anything on the calendar yet. At time of publishing, we’re staying in the RV in Papillion, Nebraska, with plans to spend the next week in Seneca, Kansas.

Q: How long will you do this?
A: We don’t know. We don’t have a hard end date. Izzy is 3 years old and doesn’t have to go to school yet. When she is school age, she could be home schooled if we’re not ready to stop adventuring.

Q: What will you do for money? Insurance?
A: We both plan on working from the road. A Verizon LTE connection should keep us connected.
Unfortunately, as contacted consultants, we’ll need to find private health insurance. If you have any suggestions, let us know!

Q: What if something goes wrong?
A: All sorts of catastrophes can ruin your way of life, even if you stick to the more traditional paths. Tomorrow is promised to no one, which is why we are doing this while we can. If something horrible does happen, one or both of us can probably land a traditional job again.

Q: Can we come visit you?
A: Yes! Please do. Our rig has some extra sleeping space if anyone doesn’t mind sleeping on a converted dinette.

Q: Why does this blog look so weird/lame/incomplete?
A:
